St. Mike's Boys & Girls Soccer Teams Place First

On Thursday, May 16th, North Grenville traveled across town to compete against St. Mike's in LGSSAA soccer action. In the Senior Girls' game, the Knights built a 2 to 1 lead but couldn't hang on. With under a minute on the clock, the Mustangs' Michelle Wilson scored to lift her team to a 3 to 2 win. St. Mike's finishes the regular season in first place with an undefeated record. The boys' game was also closely contested with the Mustangs claiming a 2 to 1 vicotry to lock up first place as well. Both schools compete on Tuesday in the LGSSAA semi-finals.

Are you ready for some volleyball? Kemptville Ribfest is hosting its first annual Beach volleyball tournament on June 15th in support of Kemptville Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Two divisions are available, Recreational Co-ed and Competitive Co-ed. 5 matches will be guaranteed for the entry fee of $250.00 per team of 6. $12,000 Raised Locally for Children's Mental Health

Over $20,000 was raised at the Love: for Children's Mental Health event held in Kemptville. After expenses, net proceeds were $12,000. This will be donated to two organizations offering programs for children's mental health: The Youth Services Bureau Crisis Clinic and the Minwaashin Lodge Sacred Child Program. The Branch Songwriting Contest: Focus on North Grenville

The Branch Restaurant in Kemptville is hosting a local songwriting contest. You have one more week to get your entries in. The focus should be on North Grenville and area, with a song inspired by the community and its immediate surroundings. Judges include songwriting guru Greg Kelly, six-time Juno and six-time CCMA Album of the Year winner Keith Glass, recording pro Bob Windsor, Arthur MacGregor of the Ottawa Folklore Centre and chef-slash-musician Bruce Enloe of The Branch. Prizes include music mentoring and recording sessions, and a gig at The Branch. Production value will not be judged. A simple recording will do; the focus is on content. Send your entry to

Kemptville 73s Announce New Head Coach and GM

The Kemptville 73s announced this week that Peter Ambroziak will be their new Head Coach. Ambroziak played for the Ottawa 67s before being drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in '91. Following his playing career Ambroziak became the head coach and director of hockey operations for the New Mexico Renegades of the Western States Hockey League. In 2011 he returned to Ottawa and joined the Ottawa Senators organization as Head Of Hockey Development for the Bell Sensplex. Ambroziak replaces Pat Malloy, who served as head coach and GM for the 73s for the past 3 seasons. Terry Nichols takes on the role of General Manager.
