Do you go across the border to shop? A new report by the Bank of Montreal shows that cross-border shopping is hurting the Canadian economy more than originally believed, and it's expected to get worse. At a conservative estimate of 5 percent of total consumer spending, cross-border shopping accounts for more than 20 billion dollars a year. That's a dramatic effect on domestic retail sales, employment and government revenues, and it's expected to worsen when duty-free limits rise next month. The Bank of Canada blames the international price gap on multi-national distributors charging Canadian retailers more than those in the U.S. for the same brand item.

A sex education exhibit that went off without a hitch in Montreal and Regina is raising quite a fuss at the Canada Science and Tech Museum in Ottawa. "Sex: A Tell-All Exhibition" doesn't hold back in its graphic descriptions of the sex act, complete with audio and mood lighting. In keeping with the interactive theme of the museum, visitors can push buttons on the "Erecto-matic" to learn how a penis functions. Perhaps the most upsetting aspect of the exhibit for members of The Canadian Institute for Marriage and Family is the exploration of casual sex, anal sex, and same-sex couples. The Museum has responded to requests to yank the exhibit by raising the minimum age of entry from 12 to 16.
